Bye-Bye Binky

My little girl is not so little anymore. I finally did it, I snipped all the tops off of her Binky's off. My sweet Kylee had a different kind of relationship with the Binky then most...one went in her mouth and the other one or two were in her hand at all times usually getting rubbed all over her face! The first night I cut them she put it in her mouth and just spit it out right away, she could tell something was not right:) It took her about 20 minutes to fall asleep. I thought we were home free until a couple hours later when she woke up crying and asking for her Binky, we repeated this process about 5 more times that night. She did wonderful all day yesterday for her nap and last night she slept all the way through the night BUT TODAY SHE IS HORRIBLE!! She has been in her crib the last hour crying and I don't know what to do! I can't turn back and give her the Binky's because I cut them all off fearing that I would give in! She still holds on to them in her hand and I think that gives her some what comfort but she knows it's not the real deal! Anyway, if anyone has any advise on the "Binky withdrawl" faze please send it my way:)

Can't help too much - none of my kids ever were addicted to binkys... Phew! But, my advice is DON'T give in... you may think you can't get through it, but if you give in now, she will know that she has total power over you! It won't hurt her to cry it out a bit for a few days, so get out the ipod and turn on the faucet and wash dishes if that's what you have to do to drown out the crying... eventually she (and you) will get through it!!! Good luck!

I agree...DON'T GIVE IN!! You can do it I promise! She will be fine and then you guys will be so happy that this little thing has passed. She is just testing you and you are going to pass with flying colors! Hang in there girl! I'm so glad that you cut them all off so that you weren't able to cave during those hard moments. You know yourself too well!

This may sound weird, but I saw something on Super Nanny... She made up a story for a little boy to "donate" his binkeys to other little boys... then he got a surprise the next morning... I tried it with my little girl and she has been binkey free ever since :)

Yes! Good idea to cut the tops off. She will do o.k. with a little more time. I don't really have any ideas. My kids didn't seem to notice when I took their binkys away. Maybe pick something out together to replace the binky. A blanket or stuffed animal. Some kind of comfort object. That is all I can come up with. Love you!

I'm definately not looking forward to this, my girls love their binkies too! It's tough stuff but it gets easier, atleast that's what everyone else says:)Hope she gets over her withdrawl soon!

Treat her like a drug addict going through de-tox. Cut her off completely, so the cut binkys won't be like a tease. It like showing an alcoholic an empty beer bottle. I'm sure the shrieks and the shakes will soon be over. Do you like what I'm comparing your daughter to. Ha Ha:)

Wow, congrats on taking such a big step. We haven't even approached that stage yet. After you figure out how to help her through this count on a phone call for advice when we make the move! Good luck to both Kylie and Mom!
